Mets' Cuddyer hopeful of making return Friday following rehab game

Left fielder Michael Cuddyer could be back in the New York Mets' lineup by the weekend.

Cuddyer told Treasure Coast Newspapers that he hopes to play a rehab game Thursday at Class A Port St. Lucie and rejoin the Mets the following day for the start of a three-game series at the Tampa Bay Rays.

A bone bruise in his left knee landed Cuddyer on the disabled list on July 24. He had been in and out of the lineup due to the ailment, starting only six of the previous 18 games.

Cuddyer is batting .250 with eight homers and 30 RBIs in his first season in New York. If he does return, it likely will result in the return of rookie outfielder Michael Conforto to the minors.
