Former Indians 'colorful' closer Chris Perez retires

Former Cleveland Indians closer Chris Perez has retired from baseball.

Since being released by the Indians in 2013, the outspoken right-hander saw his career take a turn for the worst and simply never recovered.

From Hardball Talk:

"Perez was an All-Star closer for the Indians in 2011 and 2012, saving 36 and 39 games in those years, respectively. But since then he has a 4.31 ERA with 46 walks in 100 innings. He was arrested in 2013, along with his wife, after having a package of marijuana delivered in their dog's name."

Perez bounced around from the Indians, to the Dodgers, then Brewers before getting hit with a 50-game suspension for recreational drug use.

Perez signed a minor-league deal with the Orioles in early July, but decided to hang it up before his suspension was up next month.
