Rory McIlroy's caddie earned $1 million for FedEx Cup win

Despite a slow start to 2016, Rory McIlroy had his most lucrative year ever on the PGA Tour thanks to two wins in September, including a victory at the Tour Championship which earned him the $10 million FedEx Cup bonus.
McIlroy’s caddie, J.P. Fitzgerald, might be the one celebrating most of all. Many caddies earn around 10 percent of a player’s winnings at a given event, but there’s no clear policy regarding FedEx Cup winnings.
Billy Horschel’s caddie Micah Fugitt said he was in “shock” when Horschel gave him a $1 million bonus in 2014 after winning the FedEx Cup on top of his earning for working the Tour Championship - and McIlroy gave Fitzgerald the same cut for his triumph at East Lake.
Before the first WGC event of the year in Shanghai, McIlroy said he caddie joked a “tsunami” had hit his bank account.
Via ASAP Sports:
“I knew [the FedEx Cup deposit] was there when JP, my caddie gave me a text and said thanks, and I think his words were, ‘A tsunami just hit my bank account, so thank you very much.’”
McIlroy said Fitzgerald’s total earnings for the weekend came to $1.05 million.
