DORAL, Fla. (AP) Rory McIlroy is shaking up his putting technique by going to a cross-handed grip for the Cadillac Championship, and he plans to stick with it.
McIlroy posted a video on Instagram of him putting with the left hand low, then confirmed in his news conference that it was worth a try. He said he typically practices that way to make sure he keeps the right hand from influencing the putting stroke.
He says he often putts cross-handed as a drill to keep the left hand controlling the putting stroke. McIlroy also practices with just his left hand. After missing the cut in the Honda Classic, he felt his drills were actually better than his tournament stroke and he decided to change.
