Europe has pulled even at the Ryder Cup, leveling the score at 6-6 when Northern Ireland's Graeme McDowell and Rory McIlroy defeated Zach Johnson and Hunter Mahan.

With the Americans needing to win the last two holes of the alternate-shot match, Mahan ran his drive through the green at the par-3 17th, while McDowell stuck his about 20 feet behind the flag.

Johnson's pitch slid by the hole and McIlroy, knowing his team only had to get down in two to clinch the match, rolled in the birdie putt.

The Europeans also handed Tiger Woods his worst loss ever in the Ryder Cup. Lee Westwood and Luke Donald routed Woods and Steve Stricker 6 and 5 in alternate shot. The other four matches are all tight, with Europe leading three of them by one hole.
