50-1 Green on fire in Portugal;GOLF
A FINAL round of 65 propelled Richard Green to the Portugal Masters title yesterday after overnight leader Pablo Martin threw away his chances with a three-over-par 75, writes Graham Woods.
Martin had led by three strokes overnight but his collapse allowed Aussie Green, a 50-1 shot at the outset, to come bursting through from seven shots back.
However, even Green's finalround surge was put into the shade by Ryder Cup star Francesco Molinari, who claimed nine birdies and an eagle at the par-five third for his second ten-under-par round of the weekend, giving him a share of second.
Alongside him were Robert Karlsson, Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano and Joost Luiten.
Martin Kaymer is the 15-8 favourite for the Grand Slam of Golf, which starts tomorrow in Bermuda. The tournament usually features the winners of the year's four Majors but Louis Oosthuizen and Phil Mickelson have pulled out so Ernie Els and David Toms step in.
Grand Slam of Golf best prices: 15-8 M Kaymer, 11-4 E Els (general), 11-4 G McDowell (general), 9-2 D Toms (Coral, Hills, Stan James).
