WSU drops in the preseason rankings

Published May. 28, 2015 10:30 p.m. ET

Every year the Orlando Sentinel ranks every college football team in the country in the offseason. Washington State, after a terrible 3-9 season and the loss of QB Connor Halliday, has dropped to No. 97 in the rankings.

Here is what Matt Murschel of the Orlando Sentinel had to say about WSU:

"Washington State has been among the also-rans in the Pac-12 North. Oregon and Stanford remain among the elite programs in the division while Washington and California are making vast improvements to keep up. Upgrades to the facilities go a long way in attracting top recruits, but wins guarantee they stay put in Pullman. Leach is working to deliver another winning season, but the defense could be a problem again in 2015."

WSU was ranked No. 81 last year, No. 80 in 2013 and No. 84 in 2012. That is quite a drop for a program that is not headed in the right direction.
