Wisconsin Football: Badger wins Player of the Week Award
Watt and Hornibrook Receive Honors after Saturday’s Win
After a 30-6 rout of Michigan State the Badgers defense was a the talk of game as they completely obliterated the Spartans offensive game plan. As recognition, Wisconsin’s own TJ Watt won the Walter Camp National Player of the Week Award. This award is a national award given to an offensive and defensive player each week.
In Saturday’s contest Watt seemed unblockable, which is a trait that tends to run in the family, as he recorded 6 tackles, 3.5 tackles being for loss and 2.5 sacks against the Spartans. It felt as though Watt was in the backfield on almost every play. This is a good sign moving forward as the Badgers will continue to face elite quarterbacks over the course of the next two weeks.
Wisconsin Football had another award winner on Saturday as Freshman of the Week Honors went to Badgers quarterback Alex Hornibrook after a successful first start on the road. Hornibrook was 16 for 26 for 195 yards and a touchdown throw early in the game. Hornibrook’s performance allowed the Badgers offense to become much more balanced and less predictable leading to bigger players as a whole.
Overall, it was a very successful weekend for the Wisconsin Football program as they returned to Madison with not on a win over a Top Ten team, but also some strong national recognition. The Badgers stars will have to maintain this level of play as the prep for a return to Michigan, this time at Ann Arbor to take on the fourth ranked Michigan Wolverines.
