Urban Meyer discusses notion of running 2-QB system
By Andrew Holleran
Urban Meyer has three starter-caliber quarterbacks on his roster at Ohio State this season: Cardale Jones, who won the Buckeyes a national championship; J.T. Barrett, who broke a bunch of records last fall; and Braxton Miller, a two-time Big Ten MVP.
Is it possible Meyer could play more than one of those guys during the 2015 season?
Tuesday morning, the Buckeyes’ coach discussed the idea of running a two-quarterback system.
"Sure," Meyer replied when asked if a 2-QB system is in play with a specialty quarterback, per the Bleacher Report's Ben Axelrod.
“I’ve thought about that a little bit about that, but it’s one day at a time," Meyer continued, per a tweet from Axelrod.
Meyer ran somewhat of a two-quarterback system at Florida in 2006. Chris Leak took the majority of the snaps for the Gators, but freshman Tim Tebow was used in special packages and short-yardage situations.
Ohio State’s three quarterbacks each possess different skill sets, so the idea of having a special package for one or two of them isn’t crazy.
The Buckeyes open their season Sept. 7 against Virginia Tech.
