UAB hires Arkansas OC as head coach
Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino says UAB has hired Razorbacks offensive coordinator Garrick McGee as head coach.
Petrino issued a statement Saturday congratulating McGee on landing the job. A UAB spokesman says he hasn't heard of a hiring.
The Blazers fired Neil Callaway after he concluded his fifth season without posting a winning record.
McGee, who also coaches quarterbacks, is in his fourth season with the Razorbacks and is a finalist for the Broyles Award given to the nation's top assistant. He is a former Oklahoma quarterback
Arkansas leads the Southeastern Conference in total and passing offense and is second in scoring.
McGee is a former Northwestern offensive coordinator who spent the 2001 and 2002 seasons as a quality control assistant with the Jacksonville Jaguars under Petrino, who was quarterbacks coach
