Trio of running backs to share load for Cardinal
Stanford head coach David Shaw is anxious to get his ground game back on the right track. With a stable of Christian McCaffrey, Remound Wright and Barry Sanders Jr., the Cardinal should once again be one of the best running teams in the conference.
In speaking with the media, Shaw noted that his group may be smaller than normal, but he has other big backs ready to step in as well.
"It's a different group than we have had here," Shaw said, according to John Reid of the San Jose Mercury News. "The only guy over 215 pounds is Cameron Scarlett. We'll see if he is going to be ready to play. I've been pleased with both Cameron and Bryce Love. They have come in very serious and are working extremely hard."
As for his main trio, Shaw says they're ready to go.
"My three guys are ready to play," Shaw said, according to Reid. "We know Christian McCaffrey is outstanding. Remound Wright has approached this thing like a pro. He has come in, had phenomenal pass protection, has made all the right cuts and all the right reads. We can tell Barry is stronger, more physical and is a better pass protector. We have three legitimate full-time running backs, not just a bunch of part-time guys. I'm cautiously optimistic about the whole group."
