Texas Tech boasts ground attack to make Air Raid offense really hum

Texas Tech football, at least during the Air Raid era that started with Mike Leach in 1999 and continues today with Kliff Kingsbury, doesn't exactly conjure up visions of tailbacks running wild.

Fact is the Red Raiders enter the 2015 season with one of the deepest, most talented tailback corps in the state of Texas. In a recent ranking of the state's running back units, the Dallas Morning News slotted Tech third behind Baylor and TCU, and there's an argument to be made that Tech could easily occupy either of the first two spots.

Tech returns senior-to-be DeAndre Washington as its featured back. Washington became the first Red Raiders running back to eclipse 1,000 yards (1,103) since Ricky Williams in 1998. Rushing behind a seasoned offensive line and what should be improved quarterback play, Washington and his backfield mates should have stars in their owns when thinking about the possibilities.

Kingsbury will have to make sure he doesn't get too pass-happy, and he'll also have to find ways to get speedster Justin Stockton involved. Stockton is a home-run threat any time he touches the ball. Highly touted recruit Corey Dauphine will also enter the mix.
