Texas linebacker Malik Jefferson isn't your typical freshman

It doesn't matter what the roster card or the programs may say. Malik Jefferson doesn't act like a freshman.

“It’s amazing because some of the freshmen don't think he’s a freshman,” coach Charlie Strong told the Dallas Morning News.

After arriving in January as an early enrollee following graduation from Mesquite Poteet, Jefferson has already acclimated as much as possible in the classroom and on the field.

“They told me never act the age you are,” Jefferson said, in reference to his father and older brothers. “I knew coming as a freshman in the spring, I had to act older and grow up faster. That was part of the whole process.”

Jefferson is a near lock to start for Texas on opening night against Notre Dame.
