Texas A&M Football: How to Watch the Ole Miss Game, Stats, and More
This November showdown at Kyle Field pits a Texas A&M football team without Trevor Knight against an Ole Miss Rebel team without Chad Kelly.
When this game was circled on the calendar during the preseason it looked to be match up of two of the marquee quarterbacks in the SEC. Unfortunately for both schools that won’t be the case.
Texas A&M will roll out Junior Jake Hubenak. Hubenak has played well in a few relief appearances over the past two seasons, and he was the starter in the Aggies bowl game in January. He came off the bench last week at Mississippi State and completed 11 of 17 passes for 222 yards and a touchdown.
Ole Miss will turn to red-shirt freshman Shea Patterson. Coach Hugh Freeze has elected to “burn” Patterson’s red shirt and forgo an extra season of eligibility.
Patterson was last year’s top overall dual threat quarterback recruit. If anybody is worth the gamble it might be him. That being said, I don’t care how good a player you are, it’s not easy to make your college football debut on the road at a loud Kyle Field.

The Aggies opened as heavy favorites. That was after Chad Kelly had been announced as out for the year and Knight’s status was still uncertain.

Predictions
Texas A&M has been an up and down team over the second half of the season. Injuries have played a large roll in that level of inconsistency. There’s no official report on Priest Willis or Myles Garrett, but even if they are unable to go the Aggies should still be favorites to win this game.
I don’t want to think about the repercussions of a loss to a freshman quarterback making his first college football start. Regardless of how good Patterson turns out to be, I don’t think we’ll get there. The Aggies should roll in all phases and control this one from the opening kickoff.
