Tennessee St. 21, Bethune-Cookman 14

In a game in which all the scoring took place in the first half, Trabis Ward rushed for 154 yards and two touchdowns as Tennessee State defeated Bethune-Cookman 21-14 Saturday in nonconference play.

The Tigers (4-0) scored on Ward's 4-yard run, the only points of the first quarter. Each team then scored twice before halftime.

Ward scored again on a 6-yard run for a 14-0 lead. It was 21-0 after Sven Hurd's field goal attempt was blocked by Antonio Harper and Daniel Fitzpatrick returned it 40 yards for a Tiger touchdown.

Bethune-Cookman (2-2) finally scored on a 9-yard touchdown pass from Quentin Williams to Preston Cleckley. The Wildcats got closer when Tennessee State quarterback Michael German fumbled and LeBrandon Richardson returned it 44 yards for a touchdown to make it 21-14.

But the second half was scoreless. Tennessee State ran out the clock deep in Wildcat territory as time expired.
