An Arizona State football player apparently was shot in the buttocks Saturday during a random shooting in his California hometown.

A spokesman for Arizona State told the The Arizona Republic that Deantre Lewis, a running back who was the team's second-leading rusher in 2010, was injured while visiting family in Norco, Calif., but cited privacy laws in declining to provide more details.

However, Lewis' teammates posted on Facebook that the running back was shot in the buttocks. According to the posts, Lewis' injuries are not considered serious and he is recovering in a local hospital.

In 2010, the true freshman recorded 539 rushing yards and four touchdowns and made 23 receptions for 370 yards and two TDs.
