Stanford launches Christian McCaffrey Heisman campaign
Christian McCaffrey's outstanding sophomore season has led Stanford to officially launch a Heisman campaign on his behalf.
McCaffrey currently leads the nation in all-purpose yards with 2,174 yards and has rushed for over 100-yards in seven consecutive games--all Stanford victories.
The Heisman campaign for McCaffrey will be run through a site named "WildCaff.com", the school announced Tuesday.
"WildCaff.com-- with two F's," Stanford head coach David Shaw said, per ESPN. "We want to support him. It's a really good sidebar to what we have going as an entire team."
McCaffrey's all-purpose yardage total recently surpassed the likely of Tony Dorsett (1976), Marcus Allen (1981) and Mark Ingram (2009). All three of those players went on to win the Heisman Trophy.
The sophomore sensation is averaging 241.6 all-purpose yards this season. If he continues to produce at that clip and Stanford wins the Pac-12 North and plays 14 games this season, he is on pace to break Barry Sanders' single-season record for all-purpose yards (3,250).
