Southern Utah shuts down Dixie State 52-0

Brad Sorensen threw for 245 yards and three touchdowns as Southern Utah shut down Dixie State 52-0 on Saturday.

With just one game left to play, the win over the Division II Red Storm (2-8) guaranteed the Thunderbirds (6-4) their first winning record since 2004.

Sorensen played only the first half, completing 19 of 23 tries including scoring throws to Robert Ah Sue, Tysson Poots and Jared Ursua.

He then gave way to Jason Mayer, who came in for the final drive of the half and threw for 61 yards and a touchdown to Abbel Aiono.

Tui Siliva and Lavell Ika also scored on short runs in the first quarter while Matt Holley ran back an interception 44 yards for a touchdown in the third.

Brock Miller capped the shut out with a 50-yard field goal late in the third quarter.

Dixie State's Sione Tapuosi led the game in rushing with 109 yards.
