Source: Texas A&M hires LSU defensive coordinator John Chavis
LSU defensive coordinator John Chavis will become the new DC at Texas A&M, a source confirmed to FOX Sports Wednesday.
The 58-year-old Chavis had been at LSU since 2009 and spearheaded Tiger defenses that did, by far, the best job at bottling up the dynamic Aggies offense since Kevin Sumlin arrived at College Station three seasons ago.
Before his time with the Tigers, Chavis spent the previous two decades at Tennessee.
In 2011, Chavis won the Broyles Award, honoring the nation's top assistant coach.
At A&M, Chavis will replace Mark Snyder, who was let go right after the regular season. The Aggies ranked No. 109 in the nation in total defense and were No. 110 against the run in 2014.
