Tim Flanders ran 26 times for 124 yards and two touchdowns to lift Sam Houston State over Texas State 31-29 on Saturday.
Flanders became the first player for the Bearkats (6-5, 4-3 Southland) to gain 100 or more yards in seven games in a season.
After Karrington Bush ran in for the touchdown to make it 29-31 with 2:38 left, the Bobcats (4-7, 1-6) tried to tie it with a 2-point conversion. Tim Hawkins threw to Darius Bolton in the end-zone, but the catch was dropped.
The Bearkats ran out time on the next drive for the win.
