Syracuse is on the verge of naming Bowling Green’s Dino Babers its next head coach, according to reports by Sports Illustrated’s Thayer Evans and Pete Thamel.

Babers has led Bowling Green to a 10-3 record and a MAC title this season and is reportedly near signing a six-year deal with the Orange, who fired Scott Shafer after his team finished 4-8 this season.

In four years at Eastern Illinois and Bowling Green, Babers, 54, has compiled a 37-16 record. In the last two years at Bowling Green, Babers has gone 18-9.

Babers, who coached future NFL quarterbacks Jimmy Garappolo and Matt Johnson, is expected to help improve the Orange’s offense. Bowling Green is currently third in the nation in total offense (556 ypg) and 10th in yards per play (6.7)
