RB Hansbrough injured, out in season opener

Published Sep. 5, 2015 4:56 p.m. ET

Starting running back Russell Hansbrough left the season opener versus Southeast Missouri State with a leg injury. He will not return to the game.

Hansbrough was injured early in the first quarter after running for a first down. He finished the game with two carries for 23 yards. In his absence, Ish Witter and Tyler Hunt have shared the running back duties.

It's an injury Missouri can ill-afford. Hansbrough led the team in rushing with 1,084 yards and 10 touchdowns a year ago. Behind the senior back is a group without much experience. Witter and Hunt combined for only 110 yards rushing on 29 carries in 2014.
