Penn State dealing with unique schedule layout
Everyone likes home games, but at what point comes too much of a good thing?
Penn State football and its fans might find out this fall when the Nittany Lions host five games in a row beginning Sept. 12 with Buffalo and finishing Oct. 10 against Indiana.
The Nittany Lions also open the season against Temple in Philadelphia, so their first game outside of the state of Pennsylvania will not be until they go to Ohio State on Oct. 17.
Consequently, Penn State will only have two home games in the last seven weeks of the season.
"You want to be able to break up home and away games through the season so you can spread those out, but we only have so much control over so many things. The thing we can control is our out-of-conference schedule," head coach James Franklin told The Allentown Morning Call.
They can also spice up the run of home games with a variety of promotions and themes already announced. Those include "Unrivaled Band Jam Day" and Military Appreciation Day along with the more traditional homecoming weekend and the annual "White Out" game.
Of course nothing beats the doldrums like winning, so if Penn State can use that home schedule to build momentum on the field and be heading to Ohio State with a 6-0 record, no one is likely to complain.
