Ole Miss Football: The Biggest Game of the Season Awaits

Ole Miss is 1-1 on the young season, but no game will be as significant as Saturday’s tilt with Alabama.
Yes, Ole Miss lost to Florida State on Labor Day night. Yes, the Rebels bounced back against Wofford on Saturday to improve to 1-1. Throw out those games though. This is the one that matters. Want to win the SEC West? Beat Bama. Want to win the SEC Championship? Beat Bama. Want to have any chance of making the College Football Playoff? Beat Bama.
Now, you might say Ole Miss beat Alabama the last two years and did not take advantage of it by winning the SEC West. That is true.
However, I believe the SEC West is the weakest it has been in some time. LSU is worse than we thought, Auburn isn’t very good on offense, and the jury is out on Texas A&M.
The only way to win the SEC West by losing to Alabama is to hope they lose twice, which isn’t likely.
If Ole Miss does lose to Alabama is there anything left to play for? Sure. You can go back to a New Year’s Six Bowl for the third year in a row. You can win out and hope against hope that something weird happens and you make the SEC Championship game.
Ole Miss needed to beat either Florida State or Alabama to have a chance to make the College Football Playoff, the margin for error is gone after the loss to FSU.
If Ole Miss is able to beat Alabama, they become the prohibitive favorite to win the SEC West. I do not see the Rebels losing twice to teams around the league outside of Alabama.
The goal is clear: Beat Alabama and go win the SEC West. It all starts at 2:30 on CBS Saturday in Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.
