Ohio State Football: NFL Rookies Impress, Zeke Running Wild
Former Ohio State players are becoming NFL stars.
Three Buckeyes are making quite an impression in their rookie season in the NFL. And one in particular, Ezekiel Elliott, is running wild in the pros like he did for Ohio State.
Several Buckeyes are performing well and three of them are rated at or near the top at their positions among rookies by some. Elliott, wide receiver Michael Thomas and defensive end Joey Bosa.
After holding out in the preseason, it took time for Bosa to get in playing shape so he has only played in three games. But boy has he made an impact in that short time.
In his first game Bosa had five tackles with four of them solo and two sacks. He only had one tackle his second game but in his third his totals were identical to his first. Bosa is ranked No. 5 among rookies by Pro Football Focus.
Michael Thomas has had a fine season so far and has really come on as of late. Pro Football focus now has Thomas ranked as the top rookie wide receiver and No. 6 overall among all rookies. Here is what was reported in an article by 247Sports.
“At different points in the season, we’ve had multiple other receivers make this top-10 list, but at the moment, Thomas is the unquestioned best rookie wideout of this class. Over the past two weeks, he has the fourth-highest receiving grade in the league, with 208 yards and a touchdown in those games. Gaining favor in a Drew Brees-led offense is usually a good thing, as his 18 targets the last two games indicate that Thomas is here to stay.”
More from Scarlet and Game
Expect more big things from Thomas as the season rolls along.
Ezekiel Elliott is off to an amazing start. His 703 rushing yards leads the NFL and is 22 yards ahead of David Johnson of the Cardinals who has played one more game. He is on pace for a 2,000 yard season and breaking Eric Dickerson’s rookie rushing record.
Elliott told Dickerson he was going to break the record before the season began. Dickerson just laughed because he has been told the same thing by rookie running backs before and his record is still intact. That may change by season’s end.
Other former Ohio State players are having nice rookie seasons as well and we will discuss their accomplishments on future articles. With the Buckeyes performing at such a high level in the NFL, it will only help Ohio State players who enter the draft in the future.
