Morrissey preps for position change, 'will do whatever' to make NFL roster
These are nerve-wracking times for former Iowa State defensive end Cory Morrissey. As he awaits to learn his fate in the NFL Draft this week, Morrissey is anxious to have the major untied loop in his life knotted.
"It's all like a crystal ball right now," Morrissey told the Ames Tribune. "I am just ready to know where I am going to end up and get to work and control what I can control."
If he is drafted or finds his way onto an NFL roster as a free-agent come fall, the 6-foot-4, 260-pound native of Ames, Iowa will likely be forced to switch positions from his usual defensive end to linebacker.
"That is something I am going to have to transition to and prove that I can do," Morrissey said.
Although he knows the transition won't be easy, if not only for the mere fact that it will be done at the professional level, Morrissey isn't a novice to linebacker.
"Linebacker is something that's natural to me," Morrissey said. "It's something I grew up playing. I can already pass drop."
Regardless of which position he plays, Morrissey is eager to have a chance to fulfill his dream of playing in the NFL—and will go to any lengths to ensure it happens.
"I keep telling people if I get to the NFL I will hand out water bottles," he said. "I will make sure I fold everyone's towels. I will do whatever it takes to make an NFL roster."
