Can it happen? Will it finally happen? Michigan State football takes on another winless team in conference action as Rutgers comes to town Saturday afternoon. The Spartans are hoping for something to go their way as they’ve lost seven straight games.

At the beginning of the year, Mark Dantonio clamored on about the goal of back-to-back Big Ten titles, but he probably didn’t think he’d be worried about becoming bowl eligible by this point in the year. Michigan State has been pretty bad thus far, but a win here could go a long way.
The Spartans are overwhelming favorites, somehow, against Rutgers on Saturday and there is a good chance the losing streak will end. However, can the Spartans finally hold onto a lead instead of letting it slip through their fingers?

Keys to Victory
This one is easy for me. The Spartans need to get off to a fast start without looking back. Too often, this team gets a seven or 10-point lead and allows the opposition to get right back into it and that’s what has led to seven straight losses. Heck, just look at the BYU, Indiana, Michigan, Northwestern, Maryland and Illinois games. Keep stepping on the gas.
Defensively, limiting big plays is a must. Those are the kinds of things that can get teams back into games and give them confidence. Pretty easy keys to victory against a fellow hapless team in Rutgers.

Man, this might be an ugly game. Actually, this definitely will be an ugly one as Michigan State and Rutgers have combined for zero wins in conference play through 10 weeks. One of these teams is going to end that on Saturday and I’m going to have to side with the home team. Michigan State is just too talented to go winless in conference play and the Scarlet Knights are really that bad. The Spartans finally win one and Tyler O’Connor gets the start and his first win since September.
