Miami's Edwards named a darkhorse candidate for ACC offensive player of the year

On Tuesday ESPN released its list of five darkhorse candidates to win the ACC offensive player of the year award, and Miami running back Gus Edwards made the list.

The 6-2, 230-pound rising junior played in 12 games last season and averaged 5.7 yards per carry for 349 yards and six touchdowns.

Here's what ESPN had to say about Edwards: "Yes, Edwards will have to share some carries with Joseph Yearby. And yes, Miami’s offensive line is a major question mark at the moment. But Edwards also has a lot going for him. (Quarterback Brad) Kaaya is a proven threat down the field, so defenses will have to play Miami honest. At 6-foot-2, 230 pounds, Edwards is a beast who can carry the load -- similar to what Conner did last year at Pitt. But what’s always overlooked is that Edwards has some skills too, including a lot more speed than he gets credit for."

Also making ESPN's list was N.C. State quarterback Jacoby Brissett, Louisville QB Reggie Bonnafon, Boston College Jon Holliman and Virginia Tech WR Isaiah Ford.
