Melville leads Colgate to 44-38 win over James Madison

HARRISONBURG, Va. (AP) Jake Melville threw two touchdown passes and ran for two more, leading Colgate to a 44-38 upset win over James Madison on Saturday in the second round of the FCS playoffs.

James Holland ran for a career-high 165 yards and two touchdowns on 27 carries, including a 2-yard run on third-and-1 on the Raiders' final possession to give Colgate (9-4) its seventh straight win.

Melville had 120 yards passing and a career-high 163 yards rushing.

Down six, Bryan Schor drove James Madison (9-3) to Colgate's 3-yard line with 3:06 left, but Raiders defensive back Josh Ford broke up Schor's pass attempt to Brandon Ravenel on fourth down.

Schor finished 13 of 18 for 141 yards and two touchdowns for the Dukes, who had a first-round bye.

A TD pass from Melville to John Quazza gave the Raiders a 17-0 lead early in the second. But James Madison scored touchdowns to take a 28-24 halftime lead.

Colgate advances to face Sam Houston State in the FCS quarterfinals, which beat McNeese State 34-29 on Saturday.
