Mark Elder named Special Teams Coordinator of the Week

Published Sep. 10, 2015 4:52 p.m. ET

With the exception of two missed kicks by sophomore Aaron Medley, Tennessee had an outstanding opening day on special teams against Bowling Green. In fact, the performance was so good that the unit's coordinator Mark Elder has been named national Special Teams Coordinator of the Week by Coaching Search

Tennessee averaged 43 yards on two kickoff returns in a 59-30 win over Bowling Green, including a 67-yarder with a facemask penalty tacked on. The Vols also averaged 34 yards on three punt returns, each over 21 yards.

The numbers don't tell the entire story, as cornerback Cam Sutton set Tennessee up for their first two touchdown drives and nearly scored a touchdown of his own on a 47-yard punt return.

The Volunteers also held Bowling Green to 23 punt return yards and 54 yards on kick returns.
