Chris Summers caught three touchdown passes from Mike Brown as Liberty rolled to a 41-7 Big South Conference victory over Virginia Military Institute on Saturday.

Summers, who had six catches for 120 yards, scored on receptions of 54, 23 and 17 yards in the first half, when the Flames (5-2, 2-0) built a 31-0 lead. He leads the Football Championship Subdivision with 12 touchdown receptions, and he broke Liberty's single-season record of 10 set by Eric Green in 1989.

Brown completed 17 of 28 passes for 231 yards.

Liberty outgained VMI 322 yards to 40 in the opening half, and the Keydets (2-4, 1-2) didn't get a first down until their fifth possession.

Liberty, which came in ranked No. 7 nationally in total offense, finished with 447 yards - the fifth time in seven games this season the Flames have surpassed 400 yards, and their third straight.
