Lamb out at Furman after 4 years with no playoffs

Bobby Lamb says he will resign as Furman head coach after the Paladins' season finale.

Lamb announced Friday that he is stepping down following a fourth season in which Furman missed the Football Championship Subdivision playoffs.

Lamb has been with Furman for 29 years dating to his days as a quarterback. After graduating in 1986, Lamb became an assistant coach, then was promoted to head coach in 2001 when Bobby Johnson left for Vanderbilt.

Furman made the playoffs in four of Lamb's first five years. He won a Southern Conference title in 2004.

But the Paladins have gone 24-20 since then. A loss to Georgia Southern on Saturday would give Furman its first losing season since 1998. Lamb goes into the game with a 67-39 record in nine years at Furman.
