DePauldrick Garrett set a school record with four rushing touchdowns, leading Lamar to a 58-0 win over Texas College on Saturday in Lamar's season opener.

Mike Venson and Octavious Logan added rushing scores as the Cardinals opened up a 35-0 halftime lead on Texas College (0-2), an NAIA program.

The Steers, who opened their season Aug. 27 with a 47-3 loss at Belhaven, managed just 64 yards of total offense. Randall Harper and Andrew Vargas combined for 19 yards passing. Vargas threw two interceptions that were returned for touchdowns, and each quarterback was sacked three times. The Lamar defense also recorded a safety and recovered three fumbles.

Andre Bevil, Jeremy Johnson and Doug Prewitt all saw time at quarterback for the Cardinals.

The 58-point margin of victory was the largest in school history.
