Indiana St. holds on for 29-28 win over SE Missouri State

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) Matt Adam hit Gary Owens on a 33-yard scoring strike with 41 seconds remaining and Indiana State held on to take a 29-28 victory over Southeast Missouri State on Saturday.

Trailing 29-22, Southeast Missouri State's Paul McRoberts hauled in a 26-yard touchdown pass from Dante Vandeven as time expired but the Redhawks failed to convert the two-point attempt.

The Redhawks scored 21 points in the fourth quarter, taking the lead, 22-21, with 2:24 remaining when Lewis Washington scored from the one and Vandeven passed to Darrius Darden-Box for the two-point conversion.

Trailing 7-0 with 11:15 left in the third, Indiana State's Travis Starks picked off a Tay Bender pass and raced 100 yards to tie the score as well as the school record for interception returns.

Adam threw for 252 yards and one touchdown for Indiana State (2-1). Tremane McCullough rushed for 114 yards for the Redhawks (1-2).
