Shakir Bell ran for four touchdowns and a school record 256 yards to help Indiana State hold on to a 37-35 victory over Youngstown State on Saturday.

All of Bell's touchdowns, including runs of 62 and 61 yards, came in the first half, giving the Sycamores (3-1, 1-0 Missouri Valley) a 34-21 edge. His final rushing total broke the previous school record of 253 yards, set by Derrick Franklin in 1990.

Kurt Hess led the game in passing with 224 yards and two touchdowns for the Penguins (2-2, 1-1) while Jamaine Cook ran for two touchdowns and 177 yards and Jordan Thompson added 43 yards and a TD.

Cory Little's field goal midway through the fourth quarter gave Indiana State the final advantage.

Hess threw a touchdown Jelani Berassa with 1:21 to go, but the Penguins got no closer.

Indiana State's Ronnie Fouch threw for 189 yards and a touchdown.
