Indiana signs 22 recruits, adds 2 transfers in 2015 class

Indiana coach Kevin Wilson looked toward the future Wednesday by restocking his roster with 22 recruits, six of whom played quarterback in high school.

The bigger impact could come from two players already on campus: running back Jordan Howard and receiver Marqui Hawkins.

On a day normally reserved for fresh new faces, the talk around Indiana's campus continued to be about the two transfers from Alabama-Birmingham who could provide immediate help on an offense that sputtered for most of the second half of last season. Both are immediately eligible because the Blazers dropped their football program.

Hawkins, who originally signed with Florida, gives the Hoosiers, a big, experienced receiver at 6-foot-2, 210 pounds.

Howard is expected to replace All-American Tevin Coleman who left school for the NFL draft. The 6-1, 228-pound rising junior finished seventh in the Football Bowl Subdivision last season with 132.3 yards rushing per game.

''He's going to be a great fit,'' running back coach Deland McCullough said during the school's live streaming webcast. ''He's a true tough guy, which fits well in our room and he's doing a great job learning our system.''

The Hoosiers' other big area of need was quarterback.

Still, only one of the six prep quarterbacks is expected to stay there in college -- Austin King, who at 6-2, 190 is regarded as a true drop-back quarterback. He threw for 4,406 yards and 38 touchdowns over his final two prep seasons, leading Alpharetta High School in Georgia to a 19-5 mark.

Wilson said the Hoosiers still have one scholarship available and that they could add another player before the season.
