Illinois linebacker Evan Frierson has been indefinitely suspended from the team after he was arrested on a charge of aggravated battery.
Police spokeswoman Rene Dunn says the 20-year-old Frierson was arrested just after midnight Sunday in Champaign after an argument and fight. She says Frierson is accused of punching two men who were standing in a crosswalk as cars tried to drive through. One of the men required medical attention.
Frierson is a 6-2, 230-pound sophomore from Washington, D.C. He has played sparingly in nine games this season and played in all 12 Illinois games as a freshman.
The Illini play Northwestern on Saturday.
