Howard ready to build on breakout season

Published Apr. 11, 2018 3:26 p.m. ET

(STATS) - Last year's surprising turnaround has Howard looking forward to its 11-game 2018 schedule, which includes two FBS opponents, five home games and one "classic" at a neutral NFL stadium.

The Bison finished 7-4 overall and 6-2 in the MEAC in coach Mike London's first campaign - just the program's second winning season in the last 16 years. Quarterback Caylin Newton, the 2017 MEAC rookie of the year, is the headliner among their 12 returning starters.

Howard opened the London era with a huge upset of UNLV, and this season the Bison will face FBS programs Ohio (Sept. 1) and Kent State (Sept. 8).

They'll host Savannah State (Sept. 15), Delaware State (Oct. 13), South Carolina State (Oct. 27), Florida A&M (Nov. 3) and Bryant (Nov. 17), while their MEAC opener against Bethune-Cookman (Sept. 22) will be held at Indianapolis' Lucas Oil Stadium as the Circle City Classic.
