FSU's Dalvin Cook named associate in July 2014 Tallahassee assault case

The Tallahassee Police Department released a statement confirming that FSU star running back Dalvin Cook is named as an associate in an active assault investigation.

According to the statement, which was released due to a public records request by ESPN, the aggravated assault case occured in July 2014 and involved two men who allegedly brandished a firearm.

In regards to Dalvin Cook, the police department stated the following:

While several of the reports requested involve open and active cases, one of note, involves an aggravated assault by two men who are alleged to have brandished a firearm at a neighbor on July 17th, 2014. Dalvin Cook, a current FSU football player is listed as an associate in the case. The case is under investigation and once complete, it will be provided as an update to this release.

Cook, a freshman, has played an important part in FSU's push towards the College Football Playoff.

This news comes on the heels of quarterback Jameis Winston being cleared in a code of conduct hearing related to an alleged sexual assault in December 2012.

FSU is gearing up to face Oregon in the semifinal game at the Rose Bowl on Jan. 1.
