FSU football has been lit up by Miami quarterback Brad Kaaya the past two years in a losing effort. Will 2016 be any different?

The FSU football team is facing its most important game of the season when they take on one of its biggest historical rivals in the Miami Hurricanes on Saturday in prime time.

The ‘Noles will travel to Doak south, and take on Brad Kaaya and the Miami offense that’s hungry for a win after losing six straight to FSU.

Of course, the FSU defense has been struggling while playing arguably the toughest slate of offenses in the country.

The scary part is Brad Kaaya has absolutely lit up FSU defenses the past two years although he has taken losses in both games.

What will he be able to do against this 2016 FSU defense?

2014

In the 2014 game, Brad Kaaya passed for 316 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. You may remember this game as the Jalen Ramsey second half game.

Kaaya finished 16 of 34 (47 percent) and one rush for five yards. The Hurricane offense averaged 6.6 yards per play during the game.

Duke Johnson also had a very strong game, finishing with 130 yards on 27 carries. He also had four receptions for 37 yards.

2015

In the 2015 game, Kaaya passed for 405 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions. FSU held a 20-10 halftime lead before things got tight in the second half as Miami took a 24-23 lead with 10 minutes to go in the game.

The Miami offense averaged 6.25 yards per play on the night.

The FSU defense was able to shut down the Miami running game, holding them to just 20 yards for the game.

DeMarcus Walker had a big game with two sacks on Brad Kaaya, and Dalvin Cook continued his dominance of his hometown team.

Conclusion

The good news is that Brad Kaaya has had big games against FSU football the past two years and still lost. Also, he’s a statue in the pocket and not a huge threat to run at all compared to the quarterbacks the FSU defense have been trying to slow down the first few games.

The bad news is Miami has averaged over six yards per play against Charles Kelly defenses the past two years.

The FSU defense is giving up over seven yards per play in 2016, and Miami is averaging 8.18 yards per play in 2016.

Again, Miami has only played one program of note and that was Georgia Tech in their last outing. Georgia Tech’s defensive S&P+ rating is No. 29 in the nation.

Miami averaged 7.7 yards per play against Georgia Tech, but were only 1 of 7 on third down. Georgia Tech committed three turnovers on offense which was the difference in the game, but still had a near 20 minute edge in possession.

The good news is Miami is playing a lot of freshmen at linebacker, and the FSU offense is No. 3 in the nation regarding S&P+.

Maybe it’ll be another year of Brad Kaaya getting his, but ultimately leaving Miami winless against FSU in his career.
