The Panthers ended up with a coaching vacancy after the 2014 season, as former Pitt head coach Paul Chryst jumped ship to join his alma mater.

Now, at Wisconsin, where he played quarterback from 1986-1988, Chryst is impressing athletic director Barry Alvarez, according to Tamira Madsen of the Associated Press.

"I like what I've seen, how he manages his vision for a program; how he deals with his assistant coaches, and how he delegates," Alvarez told Madsen. "I love my conversations with him about his vision, what he sees with the players and how he wants to bring them along."

Chryst led Pitt to three consecutive 6-6 regular seasons at Pitt. His only bowl win—a 30-27 victory over Bowling Green in the 2013 Little Caesar's Pizza Bowl—was bookended by losses to Ole Miss and Houston in the BBVA Compass Bowl and the Armed Forces Bowl, respectively.

New head coach Pat Narduzzi, formerly the defensive coordinator at Michigan State, has received "rave reviews" since early March, according to Chip Patterson of CBSSports.com.

It seems as though the Panthers like their new direction.
