Florida Gators Football: UF Moving On From Florida State Loss
The Florida Gators mourned the loss to the Florida State Seminoles, but there’s no time to lose focus with the Alabama Crimson Tide on the horizon.
The Florida Gators football team has been one of the most resilient teams in college football. Despite losing six starters on defense, the starting center, and the starting quarterback, Florida has gone 8-3 and won the SEC East.
Unfortunately, the Gators lost a heartbreaker to the Florida State Seminoles in Tallahassee—a game that’s left many in Gainesville devastated.
Florida lost its fourth consecutive game to Florida State on Saturday, November 26. That streak means the seniors on the roster, as well as the NFL-bound juniors and redshirt sophomores, played their entire Gators careers without defeating the Seminoles.
According to Garry Smits of The Florida Times-Union, the Gators are moving on from the loss to the Seminoles and focusing on the SEC Championship Game.
“We gave them until about 3:45 in the morning [on Sunday], when we unloaded the bus, to think about it and erase it,” McElwain said of his team’s fourth loss in a row to the Seminoles. “Then come back in realizing there’s a whole bunch of people who wish they were playing this championship weekend and the Gators are one of the few that are. Let’s take advantage of this opportunity. The guys are disappointed but the [FSU] game has no affect on us winning the SEC championship game.”
That’s exactly how it needs to be.
Losing to Florida State four years in a row is something that won’t soon be forgotten by the players who endured that process. The task ahead is just as monumental, however, and the reward would be something the players would be able to cherish.
For the second consecutive year, the Gators will play the Alabama Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship Game.
Though Florida is the heavy underdog, it has a chance to upset Alabama and become conference champions. It’s already won the division title, which is a sign of how resilient it already is.
Coach McElwain will have his team focused and ready.
The Florida State loss stung, but there are still games to be played and championships to be won.
