Fired Ohio State band director cries playing alma mater in alumni band

In July, Ohio State band director Jon Water was fired after an investigation determined he was aware of but did not stop a "sexualized" culture within the band.

However, Waters was back on campus on Saturday playing with the alumni band, and during its performance of the school's alma mater, "Carmen Ohio," he could be seen weeping.

In the video below, Waters is the one holding the third sousaphone from the front.

Cleveland.com spoke with Waters after the performance:

"It's incredible to be out here with my family," [he said] referring to the band.

"It's been a long journey," Waters said. "It's a journey that's not over. But to be here with my family and friends is incredible. I'm honored to be a part of it."

While Waters has tried to clear his name, his supporters have lobbied intensely for his reinstatement, arguing he has been scapegoated by the university and was working to improve the culture inside the band. On Friday, a group of band alumni released a report that claims OSU should reject the investigative report and bring him back.
