Edmonds carries Fordham past Rhode Island 54-7
NEW YORK (AP) Chase Edmonds set a school record for freshman with 231 yards, scoring four touchdowns in the process, as Fordham beat Rhode Island 54-7 on Saturday.
Edmonds scored on runs of 16 and 10 yards in the first quarter, which propelled Fordham (2-1) to a 17-0 lead at the half. In a 30-point third quarter, he had TD runs of 87 and 41 yards. The quarter also included a safety and a defensive score.
Mike Nebrich completed 22 of 38 passes for 331 yards and a 32-yard touchdown to Tebucky Jones Jr., late in the third quarter. Jones Jr. had six receptions for 124 yards and Sam Ajala had five for 114.
Fordham, which stretched its record home winning streak to nine games, piled up 654 yards while holding Rhode Island (0-2) to 287. Rhode Island scored on a Mack Lowrie pass to Charlie McKeeman in the fourth quarter.
