Aramis Hillary ran for two touchdowns, including the game winner in the final two minutes, as Coastal Carolina edged Furman 30-23 on Saturday night in the season opener for both teams.

Hillary scored from 3 yards out with 1:32 to play to break a 23-23 tie. The quarterback also ran for a 4-yard score in the first quarter.

Coastal Carolina, which lost its final three games last season, controlled possession throughout. The Chanticleers ran the ball 59 times, and held possession for 36 minutes, compared to 21 for Furman.

Jerodis Williams rushed for 146 yards and three touchdowns for Furman, which has lost five of its past six. Williams tied the game with 1:03 to go in the third quarter on a 68-yard run. The loss spoiled the head coaching debut of Bruce Fowler, who had been a Paladins' assistant for the past 18 seasons.
