Chop Chat's Updated 2016 ACC Bowl Projections After September
Here’s a look at where ACC teams will go when it comes to the bowl season according to the Chop Chat staff after the month of September.
The first month of the 2016 college football season is in the books – so of course we can focus on the bowl season!
Okay, we still have over two months to go until that conversation will take place for real, but the first month of the season is giving us a good start at knowing where teams from the ACC will spend their bowl games come December and early January.
We’ll know more this weekend after Louisville and Clemson square off to see who will be in the driver’s seat for the conference title, but here is an early look at where we at Chop Chat think the 11 teams that will represent the conference will be spending bowl season.
College Football Playoff (Fiesta or Peach Bowl)
Winner of Louisville/Clemson – Right now, it’s either the Cardinals or the Tigers who are going to be the odds on favorite to win it all. Of course, FSU fans want Clemson to win so they can stay in the race should the Seminoles win out.
Orange Bowl
Louisville or Florida State – If it is the Tigers who pull off the upset this weekend, it will likely be the Cardinals taking their talents to Miami Gardens. If Louisville wins, FSU could beat Clemson and make a second trip to Hard Rock Stadium this season.
Russell Athletic Bowl
Clemson or Florida State – Continuing this trend of “what if”, a win by the Tigers this weekend would likely have the ‘Noles heading to Orlando for a second time this season, while Clemson could drop down this far with a loss at home Saturday night.
Belk Bowl
Miami – Right now, the Hurricanes are still slightly on the outside looking in since the Atlantic Division is so stacked. The ‘Canes could move up to Orlando, but right now it would be Charlotte.
Sun Bowl
North Carolina – With a stretch coming up against FSU, Virginia Tech and Miami, this might be the best the Tar Heels could end up being
Pinstripe Bowl
Pittsburgh – Right now, the Panthers sit at 2-2 on the season. With games left against Virginia Tech and Miami, a 8-4 finish could get them to the Bronx.
Music City OR TaxSlayer Bowl
Virginia Tech – The Hokies could still easily win the Coastal Division and move up on the list, but you have to think they’re good for a couple more losses.
Remaining Games
Independence Bowl – N.C. State
Military Bowl – Georgia Tech
Quick Lane Bowl – Duke
St. Petersburg Bowl – Wake Forest
