Bell leads North Carolina Central to 41-6 win over Howard

WASHINGTON (AP) Malcolm Bell threw for 292 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for another score to lead North Carolina Central to a 41-6 rout of Howard on Saturday.

Howard scored first when John Fleck kicked a 39-yard field goal early in the first quarter. The Eagles (7-3, 6-1 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference), who now have won six straight, responded quickly, going ahead 20-3 at the break.

Bell, who completed 16 of 26 pass attempts with no interceptions, scored on a 6-yard run for a 10-7 lead with 2:47 left in the half and Davanta Reynolds picked off a Howard pass and returned it 27 yards for a score with 1:45 left.

Nigel Macauley, who booted field goals of 25 and 21 yards, broke the North Carolina Central single-season record with his 17th and 18th field goals.

Kalen Johnson threw for 242 yards for Howard (1-9, 1-6).
