WACO, Texas (AP) Matt Rhule says he is honored to take over as Baylor's new football coach.

Wearing a newly purchased green tie, Rhule was formally introduced on Wednesday. Rhule, the son of a minister and football coach, promised to ''take care of this program that belongs to so many of you.''

Baylor called Rhule's introduction a campus celebration. The event inside the school's basketball arena included cheerleaders, the school band playing the fight song repeatedly and baton twirlers.

The 41-year-old Rhule goes to Baylor after back-to-back 10-win seasons at Temple, where he spent 10 of the past 11 seasons. On the same day he was introduced in Waco, Rhule ran full-page ad in the Philadelphia Inquirer thanking Temple University, Owls fans and the city of Philadelphia.

Jim Grobe, the acting head coach this season, was given a standing ovation.
