Ball State scores 29 straight, beats Akron 35-21
MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) Jahwan Edwards had 178 yards from scrimmage and Ball State rallied from a 15-point deficit to beat Akron 35-21 on Saturday.
Ball State (3-5, 2-2 Mid-American Conference) finished the game with 29 straight points after Akron (4-4, 2-2) led 21-6 in the second quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Ball State's defense and special teams recovered a muffed punt return, blocked a punt and intercepted a pass to create starting position within the Akron 29 for three consecutive scoring drives.
Jack Milas scored on a 5-yard quarterback keeper to give the Cardinals a 25-21 lead with 11:45 to play. Edwards added a 2-yard TD run almost 5 minutes later and Scott Secor capped the scoring on his fifth field goal with 2:58 left.
KeVonn Mabon scored on a touchdown run in the second quarter and Secor kicked two field goals in the third to close Ball State's deficit to 21-19.
