Analysis: Why Pineiro's commitment to Florida is significant
On Wednesday, Florida announced the signing of kicker Eddy Pineiro. It was a massive get for Jim McElwain and his staff -- especially since Pineiro had been committed to Alabama for quite some time.
Regarded as the nation's top kicker, Pineiro attended ASA College in Miami. He did not play football at the institution this past year. As such, he'll have four years to play at Florida.
Although a kicker isn't necessarily thought of as a crown jewel of any recruiting class, Pineiro may be the most significant piece added to the squad in 2016. Florida's kicking situation this past year was a complete mess. Austin Hardin connected on only five of 14 attempts -- which ranked the Gators dead-last in the conference in the category.
Remember the kicker who nailed this 77-yard field goal? Well, he's changed his mind on going to Alabama... https://t.co/zGOVzJ7Jog

An assortment of walk-on kickers were brought in (and utilized at points). However, none seemed to fit the bill with any adequacy.
Pineiro has a true rocket for a leg -- and looks primed to help the dire situation currently in Gainesville.
